Executive Director Agnes M. Bain
Executive Director Agnes M. Bain is an arts adminstrator and community champion who attended Empire State College. She has been executive director of the African American Cultural Center since 1979.
Throughout her nearly 30 years of dedicated service to the generations of children and adults who come to Center, she has safeguarded its founding vision. Her careful and loving guidance has secured the African American Cultural Center as a cultural gatekeeper that generates live theater and free jazz concerts in the park, cultural education classes, after school help with homework, summer camp and an African dance and drum company requested throughout the Western New York region.
Ms. Bain has served as a member of the Buffalo Arts Commission (appointed by former Mayor Anthony Masiello), East Side Coalition of the Arts and Niagara Frontier Folk Arts Council, and as a panelist for the NYS Council on the Arts Special Arts Service and the Arts Council for Buffalo and Erie County, where she also served as board member. She has received awards and recognition from YMCA of Western New York, Kappa Alpha Sorority, Negro Business and Professional Women's Club, Naomi Chapter #10 Order Eastern Star, Langston Hughes Institute and the Martin Luther King Jr. Committee and 1490 Jefferson Black Achievers.
As chief administrator of the African American Cultural Center, Agnes M. Bain has been responsible for broadening the scope of its dynamic programs and for growing the financial base. In addition to maintaining its core funding, she has captured grants from, among others, the National Endowment for the Arts, NYS Department of Parks and Recreation, the WNY Delegation/Natural Heritage Trust Fund and special legislative grants through the NYS Office of Children and Family Services
